MAIN ELEMENTS OF THE TRAINING COURSE
exploring and discussing the concepts of images, image‐building, stereotypes, social
exclusion, participation, volunteerism and diversity, and to compare the local realities
building up competences (skills, knowledge and attitudes) of the participants in the areas of:
social marketing
image building
debating and persuading
advertisement and promotion
media strategy
working with journalists
web 2.0 including video‐blogging
campaigning and public actions
assessment of best practices and common pitfalls
action planning for future projects and co‐operations aiming at strengthening the recognition of volunteerism, fighting social exclusion, encouraging active participation of European citizens, and enhancing solidarity, cohesion and inclusion across generations and groups in society.
APPROACH
The training course will be based on the specific needs of the participants and will be highly
participatory. Diversity, e.g. in the group of participants, will be considered as a resource for the
building‐up and transfer of competences. There will only be few frontal lectures, the main part of the
training course will be delivered in the form of practical sessions implemented by the participants in a
learning‐by‐doing fashion. The trainers will take care of creating a supportive and safe learning
environment, where participants are encouraged and coached while mastering challenges that
contribute to their personal, professional and organisational development. Special attention is paid to
making the learning points of the training course relevant, sustainable and transferable, eg by giving
ample room for reflection and assessment, by producing exhaustive documentation and by providing
templates and guidance for tailor‐made development and action plans.

Preamble: what do we mean by social exclusion?
Individuals or groups who face challenges in society and have limited access to active civic
participation and self‐realization, because of any of the following criteria: age, gender, migrant
background, refugee status, disabilities or other health conditions, socio‐economic status, level
of education, geographic location, belief, criminal record, ethnic background, …
All partner organizations in this training course, meet most of the following criteria:
a) … you work (among other) with and for challenged groups in society
b) … you work (among other) with and for youth
c) … you have (among other) a strong focus on volunteer work
d) … you are (among other) of “activist” nature
e) … you share, promote and live European values, especially solidarity, respect, intercultural
dialogue, unity in diversity, cohesion, inclusion and participation
f) … you have a strong local and/or transnational dimension in your projects

IMPACT & EXPECTED RESULTS
The project will empower the participants and their organizations to strengthen …
1) … the impact, visibility and recognition of their work in general
2) … the image of the target group(s) they work with (eg people with disabilities)
3) … the recognition and appreciation of volunteerism
4) … the impact, visibility and recognition of Youth in Action and international youth work
Furthermore, concrete future actions, projects and international co‐operations among and within the
partner organizations will be fostered, with a focus on inclusion and volunteerism.
RECRUITMENT OF PARTICIPANTS
Being a partner organization, you are entitled to nominate participants to the training course. We ask
you to select only suitable participants, in order to make this training course as beneficial as
possible for everybody. Should you nominate a highly unsuitable participant, the organisers have
exceptionally the right to reject the nominated participant in question.
Each partner organization has at least ONE guaranteed place of participation. Should you have more
people interested in the training course we however strongly encourage you to nominate all of them,
and to indicate your order of preference for them. It is probable that we can offer additional places
of participation in this training course, so that some of you could place more than one participant
in this training course.
Participants to the training course should meet the following criteria:
a) … you are a manager, staff or volunteer in a position to bring back and follow‐up on the
learning points and action plans for your organization, you can influence the decision making
in your organization, and you can ensure follow‐up projects after the training course
b) … you have been working among other in at least two of the following areas:
• work with/for inclusion groups
• volunteerism
• active participation
• image building / marketing / PR
c) … you are able to attend for the full duration of the training course
d) … you are able to fully communicate in English

The deadline for receiving these forms is October 15th of 2011.
CONDITIONS AND ARRANGEMENTS
The training course takes place from November 12th ‐ 21st of 2011, in the surroundings of Vienna in
Austria. The activity is generously supported by the Austrian National Agency for the European
Commission’s Youth in Action programme (A 4.3). Thanx to this support, the following financial
conditions apply:
The international travel costs are covered with 70%, up to the maximum amounts indicated
in the separate document (“V4V AT 2011_maximum travel costs.pdf”). Participants should
arrange their travel to Vienna in Austria. The programme starts on November 12th with a
welcome evening, and ends on November 21st with breakfast.
Board, lodging, local transports, all materials and the content of the training course are fully
covered for a participation fee of EUR 60.
You are in charge of arranging your own insurance for your travel and stay in Austria.

NEXT STEPS
Please nominate at least one participant to this training course, by using the two online forms indicated above, and please make provisional travel arrangements for your participant(s). Should you fail to recruit participants please also inform us about this as soon as possible, so that we can offer your unused places to the other partner organisations. The deadline for the recruitment process is October 15th 2011. You will receive a confirmation within the following 7 days after the deadline and you will be asked to finalize the travel arrangements. We however strongly encourage you to nominate your participants as soon as possible, in order to allow for sufficient time of preparation for your participant(s).
